Chinese Company Verification — Is This Business Actually Real?

Every year, international buyers lose money to Chinese companies that don't exist, aren't registered for what they claim, or are operating under a completely different legal entity than the one they presented.

Our Chinese company verification service checks the official record — not what the supplier tells you, not their website, not their business card. The actual government registration data. So you know exactly who you're dealing with before any money changes hands.

Why You Cannot Take a Chinese Company's Word for It

China's business registration system is entirely in Chinese and requires access to government databases that most foreign buyers cannot navigate on their own. Suppliers know this — and some take advantage of it.

These are real situations that company verification prevents:

  • A supplier shows you a business license — but it belongs to a different company with a similar name
  • The entity you've been dealing with has already been dissolved or had its license revoked
  • The company is registered as a trading company but presents itself as a manufacturer
  • The legal representative named on the contract is not the person who actually controls the business
  • Registered capital is listed as millions but was never actually paid in
  • The business license shown has expired or been altered

What We Verify

Verification Item What It Confirms
Legal Company Name The exact registered name in Chinese — and whether it matches the English name the supplier uses
Registration Number The unified social credit code — China's unique business identifier, equivalent to a company registration number
Company Status Currently active, suspended, abnormal, revoked, or dissolved — pulled directly from government records
Company Type Whether it is a manufacturer, trading company, WFOE, joint venture, or sole proprietorship
Date of Establishment When the company was actually registered — not when they say they were "founded"
Registered Capital The declared capital and whether it has been paid in — relevant for assessing financial substance
Legal Representative The individual legally responsible for the company — and whether this matches who you have been communicating with
Shareholder Structure Who owns the company — individuals, other companies, or a mix — and their ownership percentages
Business Scope What the company is officially licensed to do — manufacturing, trading, export, specific product categories
Registered Address The official address on record — and any indication it may be a virtual office or residential address

All data is sourced from China's National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System (国家企业信用信息公示系统) and cross-referenced with commercial intelligence databases.

Company Verification vs. Supplier Risk Report — What's the Difference?

Company Verification Supplier Risk Report
Business registration check
Ownership & legal representative
Business scope verification
Court records & litigation history
Enforcement blacklist check
Risk summary & flags
Turnaround time 1–2 business days 3–5 business days
Best for Quick legitimacy check Full Due Diligence

Not sure which one you need? Company verification is the right starting point when you want a fast answer to "is this business real and legitimate?" If you need a deeper assessment including legal disputes and risk scoring, the Supplier Risk Report covers all of that.

How to Get Started

  1. Send us the company details
Company name, city, and website or Alibaba link. If you have their Chinese business name or unified social credit code, even better — but the English name alone is enough to start.
  2. We locate and pull the official record
We search government databases to identify the correct legal entity and retrieve the full registration record — including details that would never appear on their website.
  3. We compile and deliver your report
You receive a clean, structured PDF — all key registration data in English, with any anomalies or concerns clearly noted. Standard turnaround is 1–2 business days.
  4. You decide with clarity
Proceed, ask questions, or walk away — with documented evidence of what you found, not just a gut feeling.

Who Uses Company Verification

  • First-time buyers who found a supplier on Alibaba, Global Sources, or a trade show
  • Importers who received a business license copy and want to confirm it is genuine
  • Procurement teams that need documented supplier qualification for internal records
  • Legal teams reviewing contracts with Chinese entities
  • Companies that want a fast, low-cost check before deciding whether deeper Due Diligence is needed
  • Buyers who noticed something inconsistent in the supplier's documents or communication

Frequently Asked Questions

I only have the supplier's English name. Is that enough?

Usually yes. We can locate most companies from their English trade name, website, or Alibaba store. If there are multiple companies with similar names, we'll flag this and confirm which entity you've been dealing with before proceeding.

How is this different from just searching on Alibaba or Google?

Alibaba and Google show you what the supplier wants you to see. We access China's official government registration system — data that is not available in English, not searchable without knowing the correct databases, and not something a supplier can edit or control.

Will the supplier know I checked them?

No. All data is pulled from publicly accessible government databases. The supplier has no visibility into who searches for their registration information.

What if the company is not registered at all?

This does happen. If we cannot locate any registration record for the entity you have been dealing with, we report that clearly — along with what we did find, if anything. An unregistered company is one of the most serious findings possible.

Can I upgrade to a full risk report after receiving the verification?

Yes. Many clients start with company verification for a quick check, then request a full Supplier Risk Report if they want to go deeper into legal records and risk assessment. We'll credit the verification cost toward the full report if you upgrade within 30 days.
